"Tsinghua Technology Innovation - BMW China IT Innovation Joint Challenge Project Lab" It is a joint initiative of Tsinghua University Technology Innovation Research Center and BMW China IT, with the support of Tsinghua University Art and Technology Innovation Base.Innovation Meta-Universe Idea Call ContestThe competition is aimed at selecting outstanding creative works around practical application scenarios of automotive products and services to create innovative business solutions under the metaverse concept. The call for proposals will be based on a virtual world in the Metaverse that is parallel to the real world, combined withVirtual reality hybrid experience, AI and cloud computing, avatars and digital twins, 5G blockchainand other technical directions inBrand marketing, production materials, in-car and out-of-car experienceThe future of the company will be chosen from the perspective ofFuture Brand Officer, Future Executive Officer and Future Experience Officer.

The kick-off meeting was organized byProfessor Li Jizhen, Vice Dean of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management and Deputy Director of Tsinghua University Technology Innovation Research CenterHe gave an opening speech and introduced the Technology Innovation Research Center of Tsinghua University, one of the organizers of this event. Tsinghua University Technology Innovation Research Center is a university-level research center managed by Tsinghua School of Economics and Management, established in 2000 and approved as a key research base for humanities and social sciences by the Ministry of Education in 2004, which is the earliest key base for technology innovation management and policy research in domestic universities. It is dedicated to the construction of innovation theory and training of innovation talents, providing support for national, industrial, regional and corporate innovation decisions, and becoming an important think tank in the field of technological innovation in China and an international first-class research institution in the field of innovation. After years of efforts, it has made remarkable progress in scientific research, consulting services, talent training, academic exchanges and platform construction, and has established its leading position in the field of technological innovation at home and abroad.

The Tsinghua University Technology Innovation Research Center will continue to provide comprehensive support to students from various aspects of the Innovation Metaverse Idea Contest conducted by the Tsinghua Technology Innovation-BMW CHINA IT Innovation Joint Challenge Project Laboratory. Professor Fu Zhiyong, Department of Information Art and Design, School of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University, long-appointed associate professor, doctoral supervisor, director of Tsinghua University Art and Technology Innovation BaseWe introduced one of the organizers of this event, Tsinghua University Art and Technology Innovation Base. The Art Science Base is an important part of Tsinghua University's service to the national innovation-driven development strategy, and is also the first creative engine and crowdsourcing platform for the integration of art and technology in China. The main mission of ArtTech Base, on the one hand, is to uphold Tsinghua University's new centennial goal of being more innovative, more international and more humanistic, to nurture start-up seeds, build design ecology and lead the cultural and creative industry, aiming to better cultivate composite innovative talents combining art and technology, so that it can further play the role of integrating art and technology innovation. Established in 2017, the base is supervised by the Academic Affairs Office of Tsinghua University, affiliated with the Academy of Fine Arts, and guided by the University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Alliance and the Sino-Italian Design Innovation Base. Tsinghua Art Science Base has carried out a series of events, research and co-creation activities in recent years, and with the experience accumulated from these activities, we believe that our activity event will be a complete success. We also invite all partner associations, such as Tsinghua University Student Creativity Space Association, Digital Entertainment Design Association, Blockchain Association and Meta-Universe Association, to join in.

Ms. Du Xia, Researcher of Tsinghua Economic Management Dynamic Competition and Innovation Strategy Research CenterThe background of the cooperation project between Tsinghua and BMW was shared. BMW Group, as a member of the Advisory Board of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, is also one of our key partners. Our cooperation with BMW Group started in 2019 when we cooperated with BMW for the 2019 IT Innovation DemoDAY. In 2020, BMW invited us to participate in their #NextGen2020 Global Idea Competition for the world, and we finally recommended five teams to BMW through coaching and selection, and two teams finally participated in the global In 2021, we also continued to cooperate with BMW China and launched a joint innovation challenge program, which lasted for half a year and involved more than 400 participants. So in 2022, the willingness of BMW and the university to cooperate is also deepening. So we decided to join hands with Tsinghua University Art and Technology Innovation Base to organize and complete such a project.

Yukki Yukki, Head of BMW Innovation ManagementThe challenge was designed to clarify the future positioning of BMW China IT and the objectives of the challenge. The topic of this challenge is designed with three major scenario areas, which are in fact closely related to the business that BMW IT usually supports. In previous years, the output of our students had continuity, and some of the winning works were also introduced into some subsequent projects of BMW. Therefore, I hope this challenge format will have a positive impact on everyone, and I also hope that this year, Tsinghua students will join this metaverse-themed event with their own ideas.

"Li Yin, head of the preliminary workshop of the "Tsinghua Technology Innovation - BMW China IT Innovation Joint Challenge Project LabThe workshop arrangement was introduced to the audience. A pre-challenge workshop was set up to effectively help the students produce the final results. The challenge will be conducted in two sessions, starting from several key levels, such as trend scanning/vision planning, context generation/narrative presentation, scenario prototyping/experience evaluation, thinking and transition/group reporting, through various effective online tools and methods, and matching the participating teams with flight mentors, inviting experts to share keynote, helping each group to complete the actual scenario selection from the perspectives of brand marketing, production materials, in- and out-of-vehicle experience, etc., and initially creating innovative business solutions under the metaverse concept. We will help each group complete the actual scenario selection from the perspective of brand marketing, production material, and interior and exterior experience, and initially create an innovative business solution under the meta-universe concept.

Event Schedule

The event is open to Tsinghua students of all professional backgrounds (undergraduate, master's and doctoral), and the registration channel is open to both individuals and teams (team registration can have students from outside the university, but the core members have at least one Tsinghua student).Participants guarantee full, complete, and exclusive intellectual property rights to the programs in which they participate.

Registration and coaching for the Challenge will take place between July and August, and all participants will have the opportunity to attend training sessions, speak with industry experts, and receive free support for equipment and software platforms. Challenge Final DEMO DAY will be held on September 9.

The challenge will eventually produce six groups of winning creative solutions, which will be awarded by Tsinghua University Technology Innovation Research Center, BMW CHINA IT, and Tsinghua University Art and Technology Innovation Base jointly.Award certificates and a total of 80,000 RMB according to different awardsWe will continue to follow up on the project's linkage with BMW CHINA IT and strive for more incubation opportunities. We will also continue to follow up on the link between the project and BMW CHINA IT to get more incubation opportunities for the project.
